What we aim for

We build against the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at level AA. That is a standard, not a promise of perfection, and the rest of this page says where we have checked and where we have not.

What is tested, and how

Every page of this shop is checked automatically before any change goes live. The check loads each page at a desktop and a mobile size, runs an accessibility audit against it, and fails if it finds a level AA problem or a JavaScript error. A change that would break one of these does not ship.

What that covers today:

• colour contrast on text and controls;
• form fields having labels a screen reader can read;
• images either having alternative text or being marked decorative;
• headings following a sensible order;
• controls being reachable and operable by keyboard.

Specific things we have done

• Keyboard. Everything that can be clicked can be reached with Tab and used with Enter or Space, and what has focus is visibly outlined.
• Reduced motion. If your system is set to reduce motion, the animations on this site switch off rather than merely slowing down.
• Changing counts are announced. Where a number changes without the page reloading — choosing samples, for instance — the new value is announced rather than only shown.
• Text can be resized. Type is set in relative units, so browser zoom and larger default text sizes work normally.
• Decorative repetition is hidden. Where a row of fragrances is duplicated to make it scroll continuously, the copy is hidden from screen readers and from the keyboard, so you do not traverse the same links twice.

What we know is not covered

An automated check finds a category of problem, not every problem. We have not carried out a manual audit with assistive technology users, and the parts of the shop that live on other companies’ sites — the payment page and the billing portal, both run by Stripe — are outside our control and are covered by their own accessibility work.
